Cruise vs Holmes and Other Expensive Divorces

Hollywood gossip circles are a buzz since the announcement Friday that actress Katie Holmes had filed for divorce from her husband of five years, Tom Cruise. As details begin to emerge, it's clear that infidelity won't be the reason for the divorce at this time. Rather, Holmes is said to allege that she has grown weary of Cruise's controlling ways. His deep commitment to his religion of Scientology is also said to have become too much for Holmes despite her conversion from Catholicism at the time of her marriage. Lastly, differences in parenting styles in how their daughter Suri was being raised were a source of constant marital contention. Cruise is said to raise Suri with a laissez-faire adult-like style and while Holmes took the "let the children be children" approach. Apparently, the six year old going about in high heels with multiple cell phones was more than her mother could stand. Holmes will be seeking sole custody of their daughter and will likely need to prove that Cruise's parenting style is detrimental to the child's development - a matter that will be costly and likely end up having to be brutal should Cruise contest. While the couple has long been the source of tabloid magazine articles of Holmes living under virtual house arrest and being constantly brought to tears because of her husband’s brusque style.

Both actors remain quite viable but the bigger star at this time remains Cruise. Even with the recent flop "Rock of Ages", Cruise's last five films have grossed nearly $1.5 billion. Holmes herself enjoys income from her long running TV series "Dawson's Creek" which has been in Syndication in foreign countries for years. She also has been active in making movies in recent years but none of which have the box office draw that Cruise has enjoyed. It's likely that she will seek some sort of cash settlement once the lawyers on both sides review their pre-nuptial agreements. Cruise is said to have been taken by surprise with the divorce announcement. However, for now, he is said to be putting his energies into a big budget film he's starring in called "Oblivion" which costs $130 million and is due to release in 2013.

Divorce takes its toll on the younger generation

Divorce attorneys are seeing a rise in divorce rates each year for many reasons, the economy stress, job loss, bankruptcies, and so much more. Which is why researchers from Michigan State University with the help of assistant professor Hui Liu, conducted a study on divorce and how it affects each generation. They have found that people who are older in life can accept the divorce easier and move on with their lives quicker. Divorce is much harder on the younger generation and the stress leaves people with health problems.

The younger people are when they go through a divorce the more risk there is for health problems. Hui Liu and her research team published the findings in the Social Science and Medicine journal stating that older people cope with divorce on a higher level. They have learned how to handle the stress that comes with getting a divorce.

The results were concluded after a long term study of 1,300 individuals reported their health studies voluntarily in a national survey. Americans’ Changing Lives reported on a 15-year period of marriages from different generations and how the health of those individuals faired after the divorce. The study showed who stayed married and at what ages the divorces took place in those who did get divorced.

The deduction in the study by Professor Liu and her team was that the health status of the older generation was more stable. The gap in health issues showed that the younger generation did not cope well with the problems of divorce and it affected their health at a greater rate. Those individuals who were born in the 50s and went through a divorce when they were between 35 and 41 years old reported considerably more health issues than those born in later years. Their peers who continued to stay married until the ages of 44 to 50 year old and then divorced had fewer health problems. Divorce among the baby boomers is quite common, but the negative health issues connected with the baby boomers that divorced at an earlier age was unknown until this study.

The researchers evaluating the study expected the younger people would handle the stress better because divorce is more common among younger people. The pressure to marry and stay in a marriage is much stronger in older people than it is with the younger generation. For those who split up at an older age most likely were in unhappy marriages and felt a great relief once they completed the divorce.

The study did seem to prove that for those going through a divorce, had more health problems than those who stayed married. The individuals who did stay divorced for the full length of the study did not show any extra health problems from those who stayed married. The outcome then shows that it is not the fact that you are married or divorced, but the idea that the stress of going through the process of divorcing is what is causing the health issues.

Earlier research studies found that even if one remarried, the divorce itself took a toll on a person’s health. People should pay better attention to their health and see their doctors when they get too stressed about the problems. Younger people need the added support of the family to get them through the stress of divorce. Counseling and prevention programs can also help couple in order to prevent the divorce.

Actress Courtney Cox Files For Divorce

Courtney Cox has officially filed for divorce from her estranged husband. Not only has Cox filed for divorce but she wants to drop Arquette from her name too.

Cox, 47, ended up filing for divorce from David Arquette on the same day as he filed for it. That was on June 8. The couple not only filed for divorce on the same exact day but both divorces were filed within just one minute of each other. Reports confirm that this information is accurate too.

It seems that the couple also listed the same reasons for wanting a divorce when they filed papers. Cox and Arquette both listed irreconcilable differences as the reason their marriage has ended. The couple has been married for over 10 years. When it comes to their 8-year-old daughter, Coco, both Cox and Arquette wants joint custody.

Cox and Arquette didn't need lawyers at their proceedings. The couple showed up at the proceedings alone and they represented themselves. Cox and her estranged husband met each other on the set of "Scream", which was a horror movie, back in 1996. The former happily married couple went onto star in the sequels together, which also including the 2011 film "Scream 4".

Once the couple separated Cox seemed to remained professional and she decided to promote "Scream 4" with Arquette. Cox and Arquette also took some time off from promoting the film and spent time vacationing with Coco. The couple then went on the Howard Stern show and talked with Howard. They talked about their love lives and they also did not hold back when they discussed their relationship together.

As many people are aware Cox's sitcom "Cougar Town" is a hit and Arquette made a guest appearance on the show. Arquette appeared on the show during the third season. TBS is airing the fourth season of the show but there is no word whether or not Arquette will make any more guest appearances on the show.

Arquette was visiting Israel a few weeks ago. As many people may or may not know, the actor has a grandfather who survived the Nazi Holocaust. Arquette decided to head over to Israel to learn about his heritage. The actor even found some time to go out and celebrate a bar mitzvah in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. He celebrated the bar mitzvah at a holy site. Arquette was also in Israel filming a brand new series that will premiere on the Travel Channel in the future.

The Future of Divorce Apps

The Future of Divorce Apps

According to the Department of Work and Pensions, a newly developed application (app) for phones created by ministers in the UK, can be an answer for couples who are struggling with their marriage or who are faced with divorce due to a number of reasons.

The Department of Work and Pensions has given $14 million euros in support of the effort to develop and launch the divorce apps while also providing support and guidance for anyone who is having trouble with their current spouse or who is struggling with the steps of separating and divorcing, especially after years of marriage or sharing children with one another.

The funding which was given for the application's development helps to provide all developmental services for the app and also create a widget for both computers and phones for divorcing parents to reference at any time.

Many of the application's supporters including the ministers who back and support its development, claim it will ultimately help to save money for the country's government overall as less couples will be more likely to use other government support services including support from the Child Support Agency. The ministers and the application's supports also make this claim based on the fact that there will be free resources and tools provided to parents whether they are dealing with an affair, a husband leaving a wife for a younger women in general, or even if you are dealing with step children and how to parent them while also getting emotionally attached as well. With the application, it is also possible to get advice on how to organize child support payments, how to avoid arguing and fighting with your spouse in front of your own children, as well as how to cope with having a new spouse or a partner for both you and your children.

In addition to the funding for the development of the application, the funding will also go towards helping to keep interventions or separating parents active while also providing counseling, mediation, and even emotional support in person within groups and from the support of the application as well. You can also find online and telephone guidance and advice with the use of the app once you have downloaded and installed it to your own computer or even your phone, making it portable and easy-to-use and access from just about any location.

When you choose to use the divorce application, it has the potential to give you the emotional support and mental clarity you need in order for you to overcome any obstacles you are facing in your relationship, whether you plan to work them out or if divorce is the final and only option you have to choose from. The application not only helps to provide advice and options you have to emotionally recover, but it also provides various tools and resources so you can join a local support group or talk with others about your situation and the details of your relationship or the pending divorce in your life.

Divorce Has Become More Accepted

Divorce used to be a bad word, something whispered among gossip circles.  The crazy part is that it has been around since the 16th century.  It wasn't until the 1970's that no-fault divorces were recognized in the legal system. Before this time divorces were granted for concrete cases such as adultery, abuse, impotence and other evidence based reasons.  Today, the standards for being granted a divorce are much easier.  The creation of the no-fault divorce in the 1970's opened the door for unhappily married couples to go their separate ways.

Divorce is a much discussed subject and has become a part of normal life.  In fact, it is unusual to find a couple that has been married once and for a long period of time.  I remember attending a 40th wedding anniversary for some friends of my parents and everyone kept asking "How did you stay together so long?"

Celebrities have taken advantage of this no-fault divorce change, that is certain.  They even marry just for publicity and then divorce for the same reasons.   How could we forget Britney Spears and her divorce from Kevin Federline after only two years.  How many times has Joan Collins been married and divorced?
Liza Minelli had a great career, but her love life was definitely filled with ups and downs. The daughter of Judy Garland was divorced four times, and her last divorce was fairly messy. That one was played out fairly publicly, and since she has not yet remarried.

Danielle Steel proves that just because somebody writes romance novels for living doesn't mean that they are able to handle love in their own lives. She has been divorced five times, and one marriage even ended because her husband was convicted of sexual assault. While she was an extremely popular author, with books sold around the world, her love life was chaotic.

Elizabeth Taylor who won two Academy Awards, led a very successful career in Hollywood.  Her love life was another story, seven divorces and two of them were to the same man Richard Burton.  They just couldn't get it right.

Of course, it isn't just women who have gone through lots of divorces. Billy Bob Thornton has been divorced five times as well, and some of his marriages lasted only a few years. When he was married to Angelina Jolie for three years, the pair insisted on wearing vials of each other's blood around their necks.

The winner of the most divorces is Lana Turner with 8 divorces.  She was discovered by Hollywood when she was only sixteen, which may be why she had so many.  Having been in the limelight a little too long may have been stressful on her many marriages.

Divorce is never easy, even if it is for a publicity stunt.  I wondered if attorneys provided a multiple discount for habitual divorcees.  I called Tenn And Tenn Attorneys at Law for an answer, in their experiences they have never been asked this question seriously.  It is something to consider though.

Crazy Celebrity Divorces

When people get divorced, emotions run high and anything can happen. Even in the course of everyday life people do crazy things, like take off with children or get into fights. When celebrities get divorced, they have the money and high status to get into some really crazy situations.

After appearing together on "The Simpsons", some may not have seen the split between the apparently happy Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. There was a crazy phone call that was released to the public with Alec ranting and raving where he referred to his soon to be ex wife as a "pig". There was a lot of issues over who was going to get custody, and at some point Kim even refused to give their daughter back after a visit.

Probably the craziest celebrity divorce was the highly publicized spat between Jon and Kate Gosselin. After getting caught cheating on his wife, he also attempted to get money from his wife. With the eight kids between them, it was crazy that they would caught doing so much by the general public. The divorce finally settled down, but it was crazy to watch it all unfold.

The only crazy divorce that could top the Gosselins would probably have to be the insanity that was the Tiger and Elin Woods divorce. After discovering that Tiger had been cheating on him with many different women in some less than average ways, Elin went after Tiger with a golf club. Listening to the conversations that had occurred between him and different women made the whole situation worse, Tiger began to lose endorsements even before his divorce.
